Craving has fascinated many scholars concerned with exploring related factors to drug abuse. This research aimed to investigate the interaction effect of experiential avoidance and difficulties in emotion regulation with distress tolerance in predicting craving among recovered opioid-addicts. The sample comprised 241 patients hospitalized at addiction treatment centers in Tehran and Alborz provinces. Findings showed that craving was significantly predicted by distress tolerance that also was affected by different levels of experiential avoidance, but this interactive effect was not observed for different levels of difficulty in emotion regulation. The moderating role of experiential avoidance has underscored its importance in studying the related factors of craving and drug abuse. These findings offer preliminary support for the importance of decreasing experiential avoidance in substance use treatment, which may result in reduced substance use craving.
