The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between metacognitive beliefs and anxiety in mothers with overweight children, with the mediating role of attitudes toward nutrition. The research method was descriptive, correlational, and based on path analysis. The population included all mothers of primary school students in districts 2 and 19 of Tehran who were enrolled during the 2018-2019 academic year, with a sample of 200 mothers selected through convenience sampling. The tools used were the Wells Metacognitive Questionnaire, Connor and colleagues' Attitudes Toward Nutrition Questionnaire, and Beck's Anxiety Inventory. Data analysis with path modeling showed that the proposed model fit well and was effective in explaining mothers’ anxiety considering their metacognitive beliefs and the mediating role of attitudes toward nutrition. According to the model, it can be said that mothers' metacognitive beliefs can predict their anxiety, with attitudes toward nutrition also playing a significant role. When developing therapeutic programs for maternal anxiety, special attention should be given to mothers' metacognitive beliefs and their attitudes toward nutrition, especially for those with overweight children.
