This study aimed to predict patterns of tobacco use based on maladaptive schemas of abandonment/instability and emotional deprivation in female high school students. The research method was descriptive, correlational, and applied research in terms of purpose. The statistical population of this study included all female high school students in Sanandaj in the academic year 1402-1403, the sample size included 150 people in 3 normal groups (50 people without smoking), recreational smoking group 50 people, and continuous smoking group 50 people. The sampling method was the convenience sampling method. The research tools were the Risky Behavior Questionnaire (Alireza Rajaei and Ali Shafiei) and the Young Schema Short Form Questionnaire (YSQ-SF). One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to analyze the data, and Tukey's post hoc test was used to determine significance between variables in pairs. The results showed that there was a positive and significant relationship between most of the early maladaptive schemas and tobacco use in female students at the (p<0.01) level, and students who used tobacco, whether recreationally or continuously, had stronger maladaptive schemas than normal students. The greatest difference was observed in the abandonment and emotional deprivation schemas. Normal students had the lowest levels of these schemas. Based on the findings of this study, it can be concluded that early maladaptive schemas can be considered a key factor in the tendency towards risky behaviors such as tobacco use in adolescent girls. Paying attention to these factors is of great importance in the prevention and treatment of social harms and can help in the development of effective preventive and therapeutic programs.
