Examining Quality of Life, Job Satisfaction, and Mental Health of Special Education Teachers and Regular Teachers
-
Abstract :
In any country, human resource is very important in the educational system. Teachers are the most important part of education, therefore examining their quality of life, job satisfaction, and mental health could change their life circumstances. The present study aims to examine the quality of life, job satisfaction, and mental health of special education teachers and regular teachers. It is quantitative in nature and uses surveying design. Data was gathered using Veenhoven Quality of Life Questionnaire (2000), Smith and Hulin Job Satisfaction Index (1969), and SCL-90 (Derogatis & Savits, 2000). Population includes all the special education teachers and regular teachers of Kashan city in the school year of 2016. One-hundred teachers (half of them were special education teachers and the other half were regular teachers) were chosen as the sample. A positive and direct correlation was found between job satisfaction and quality of life of two groups of teachers (p<0.05), and also between mental health and quality of life (p>0.05). Results showed regular teachers have more job satisfaction and quality of life, but no difference was found between two groups of teachers in terms of mental health.
