Children's expressions of anger and hostility toward their mother represent one of the most clinically significant and emotionally complex phenomena in developmental psychology. This systematic review examines the empirical literature published between 2018 and 2026 to identify the psychological, relational, and contextual factors associated with the development and maintenance of such behavior, with particular attention to the roles of emotional dependency and attachment security. Following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) framework, a structured search of major academic databases yielded 20 peer-reviewed studies meeting established inclusion criteria. The review identified five overarching thematic domains: (1) attachment insecurity as a central predictor of child hostility; (2) emotional overdependency and its paradoxical relationship with anger toward the primary caregiver; (3) maternal sensitivity and responsiveness as protective and risk mechanisms; (4) temperament as a moderating variable; and (5) the contribution of parental emotional dysregulation and burnout to hostile child behavior. Findings consistently suggest that children who are ambivalently or disorganizedly attached to their mothers demonstrate the highest levels of directed anger and hostility, often rooted in an unresolved tension between the need for proximity and the frustration arising from inconsistent caregiving. Implications for clinical assessment, family-based intervention, and future research directions are discussed.
